Keep Textbooks Alive

I would just like to say how much it ENRAGES me that there are school districts out there that are surpassing text books for brand new laptops. Not only are they wasting money, they are asking for trouble.

Textbooks don't get viruses. Textbooks cost less. Textbooks give you something to physically hold and learn from. Textbooks do not rely on electricity. Textbooks don't have access to porn (parental locks can be gotten around).

Some school district up here in Nebraska has issues personal laptops to all its middle school and high school students. And they get to take them home. I'm rather peeved about this.

I'm so, so sad to see books and newspapers be pushed to the wayside for a form of communication that is so unreliable.

True, I'm doing that right now by blogging, but I can live without my blogging. I can live without it. Because there are books. There are other things that I could be doing.

I'm just afraid that our children won't have the respect for things anymore without books and paper....

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that paper and forests are getting saved daily by this, but, there's a line you have to draw, you know? I want my books, I want my zines, I want my newspapers.
